Flex4Res publishes digital tools to boost supply chain resilience and flexible production across Europe
The Flex4Res project released two innovative digital toolboxes designed to strengthen resilience and adaptability in European manufacturing and supply chains. These tools, the Resilience Assessment Toolbox and the Reconfiguration Planning Toolbox, provide practical, data-driven approaches for companies to prepare for disruptions and optimise production flexibility.
The launch comes at a time when global supply chains continue to face unprecedented challenges, from material shortages to geopolitical risks. Flex4Res addresses these issues by enabling manufacturers to better anticipate risks, assess vulnerabilities and reconfigure production systems quickly and efficiently.
“Resilience is no longer a nice-to-have – it is a necessity,” says Dr Kosmas Alexopoulos, project coordinator of Flex4Res. “With these toolboxes, we provide European manufacturers with concrete solutions to understand their vulnerability and to take proactive measures to ensure continuity and competitiveness.”
The two toolboxes are:
1. Resilience assessment toolbox, which enables manufacturers to evaluate the robustness of their operations and supply chains by analysing various disruption scenarios. It helps decision-makers identify weak points and develop mitigation strategies based on quantitative insights.
2. Reconfiguration planning toolbox, designed to support flexibility. It assists companies in planning and executing production reconfigurations when disruptions occur, secure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
Both toolboxes have been developed and validated through four real-world industrial use cases in collaboration with major industry partners:
- voestalpine High Performance Metals DIGITAL SOLUTIONS GmbH
- Hans Berg GmbH & Co. KG
- SIDENOR Steel Industry S.A.
- GOIMEK S. Coop.
The toolboxes are part of a wider Flex4Res vision: creating secure and sovereign data spaces for manufacturing. By enabling trusted data sharing across value chains, Flex4Res lays the foundation for more adaptive and resilient industrial ecosystems in Europe.
